This is VERY rich

I was just flipping through some of my old magazines when I discovered this:

“I turn 11 next month and I’ve just broken up with my boyfriend. I don’t think boys like me coz all of my friends are going out with guys. I want more boys to like me, but I don’t know what to do. Help!”

Now that was taken word for word out of the magazine. The people at that particular magazine actually provided some ‘helpful hints’ for this girl to appeal to boys more (who would have thought, guys liked fruit scented perfume better than flower scented ones…)

Dude! This girl is like 10. She’s in grade 5. She had a boyfriend but she doesn’t think that boys like her (that is some serious screwed up logic), and all her friends have boyfriends, which makes her feel left out.

We’re talking about a bunch of midgety, 10 year olds who are not even counted as ‘tweens’. They’re not even in 6th grade. I mean, I’m nearly 16 and I don’t have a boyfriend. None of my friends have boyfriends (except for Julian, but he doesn’t count), and we don’t go around moping an writing to magazines for help because ‘boys don’t like us’.

When I was in grade 5 (great, now I’m reminiscing), boys didn’t not like girls, they hated girls. And this carried on since grade 1, all the way until grade 7, when people started to go out with each other. (And this ‘go out’ is in the very tame sense of a boy and a girl meet at the shopping centre to see a movie. They see the movie and go home on their own)

I’m surprised that people took her seriously and actually ‘solved’ her ‘problem’. If I were replying, I’d tell her that she’s a paranoid twat who wants attention and she needs to grow up and get a life.
