I think of one word that could be replaced and I sprint to my computer, tripping on the stairs up.

Yeah okay.

Is it Yuletide yettttt
heywilma: ([ rome ] atia will cut you)
Oh my god, LJ.

I've stuck with you for so long, through all the changes. I won't leave, because pretty much all of my friends and communities are here, but I cannot with this new shit. Seriously reconsidering throwing money at them this year. Maybe it's time to dust off the DW.

That is at [personal profile] heywilma, by the by. And there is... nothing there, but hopefully at some point I will have time to set things up and explore the site some more.
heywilma: ([ r | jackman ] size matters)
Dear Yuletide author,

This is a placeholder! I will have my letter up very soon :)

Hola from Barcelona, my tomodachi tachi.

(Yeah yeah it's the wrong language. Funny story about that: buying things and ordering food is pretty much just pointing and saying 'uno', except every once in a while I try to say 'this'. And then I tend to grope for a word I know, since I can never remember the word in Spanish. That's how I ended up saying 'kono' once.)

So this city, or at least all the things we've visited so far, is like a love letter to Gaudi, and that is so, so far from being a bad thing. It's also super warm. I remember at home we were all, 'well I could just buy coats or whatever over there if I don't have enough warm clothes', and now we're looking for shorts.

We got our first snorer in the dorm too. That was super amusing. I say this as a person who can sleep through pretty much anything, but still got woken up at about 2am with the sheer volume of those snores.

iPhone don't try to autocorrect snores to s'mores.

Today's plan: more Gaudi, oyea
heywilma: ([ himym ] pretty much sums it up)
Huh. You don't post an entry for a while and LJ's all changey.

So what's new? I quit my job; tomorrow's my last day at work. I figured with travelling, maybe not having anything lined up when I get back is the kick in the bum I need to look for a ~real job~ (not that being a check out chick isn't a real job, but you know what I mean). There's probably more to say about this, but damn I am exhausted just thinking about it. The last couple of months have been cray cray.

I've been reading A Clash of Kings, and I have a lot of feelings. Mostly towards the Starks, and one of them had better win the game of thrones, just sayin'. Hopefully I can finish it before going overseas, so I can take A Storm of Swords for travel reading. It's a good length for this trip.

Finished watching Avatar: the Last Airbender tonight, and it also gave me a lot of feelings. Honestly, it's one of the best show's I've seen recently, and despite it being a kid's show, it's complex, it's epic, it has good writing, a fantastic cast. It's got a great mythology and it's interesting visually, and it passes the Bechdel test. It's not perfect- some of the episodes were a little bit superfluous, but overall it's great. Can't wait for Legend of Korra ngl.

I kind of, maybe have a little crush on a boy. We'll see how it goes.

Europe is almost all booked. The plan is: Madrid - Toledo - Barcelona - Rome - Florence - Venice - Vienna - Munich - Fussen - Berlin - Amsterdam - Paris (and surrounds) - London (and surrounds) - Taipei. Words cannot describe my excitement right now.

And in November I'm going to this. THAT'S GONNA BE AWESOME TOO.
heywilma: ([ misc ] hay check it out)
- travel insurance
- ANZ travel card
- plane bookings: needs passport #
- global roaming: phone

I'm probably forgetting something, in my "holy crap I am totally going to Europe in one month" excitement.

This meme has been going on over at IJ, it's kind of an exercise in vanity, but whatever, I am vain so I'm gonna roll with it.

Ask me questions/to do things/opinions/etcetc and I will answer them in a video!

Unrelatedly, I think I figured out why Glee bothers me so much, other than the inconsistency of the writing – I don't have a favourite character. Usually in ensemble shows, I either have a favourite, or I love the whole cast pretty much equally. See: The West Wing for #1 (CJ), and Modern Family or Firefly for #2.

With Glee though, due to the characterisation fluctuations, and the fact that all the major storylines involve the 'main' four kids (EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN ENSEMBLE SHOW. I know Lea Michele sells songs, and she is the best singer, but there has got to be some way where she still sings but other people get plot as well), makes it hard to like the secondary characters, especially when the few they focus on are so unlikeable.

The closest thing I have to a 'favourite' on this show are Brittany and Mike, but other than sprouting some random awesome lines, we know nothing about them. Mike has never gotten a real storyline (I'm not counting like a half-episode arc as a storyline, no), and Brittany is only just getting more screen time, even then it's mostly in support to Santana.

That irks me. And as I've said before, if Rachel and Finn get back together I cannot anymore with this show.
heywilma: ([ dlm ] reaper truly grim)
I need a new TV show to follow like I need a hole in my head, which is why, I guess, I watched two pilots recently, first being The Borgias (which is like Sexy Cardinals the way The Tudors were Sexy Tudors and Rome was Sexy Romans), and the second being Camelot (aka. Merlin Is An Asshole, Or Just An Excuse To See Eva Green Naked). Liking them both so far, for different reasons.

On the bright side, it's almost the end of this current season? Which also means ALMOST TIME FOR DR WHO OMG.

Drive-by~

I just started The Hunger Games yesterday, to see what the fuss is about, then I ended up staying up until about 2:30am reading it. I have ~80 pages left.

Today some casting decisions for the movie came out, and LJ (and I assume the general fandom) is in a huge uproar cos they all wanted Hunter Parrish as one of the characters. But as I adore him right now, can I just say, FUCK YEAH JOSH HUTCHERSON.
heywilma: ([ s&s ] mr palmer will never approve)
I find that I tend to be more impressed by bad movies upon initial viewing. Unless something completely blows me away, I often need to watch a movie a second time to register how good they are. Case in point: Speed Racer (look I make absolutely no apologies for loving this movie), Lords of Dogtown (not one person I know has seen this, why why why), Mean Girls (I know), Sense and Sentibility (I'm sorry Mr Palmer), etc etc. Now The Kids are All Right has to be added to that list.

This is problematic because I tend to overrate bad movies and underrate good ones. If I could take back my glowing reviews of X-Men: The Last Stand, I would. If I ever recommend you a movie I've just seen, and just saw for the first time, ask me if I mean it.

Bananas are now $11.98 a kilo. I had a customer today who made a total D: face when he realised that his single banana was going to cost over $4.

And now a poll.

Let me tell you something about Tom Riddle. We were teacher and student in middle school. I know, right? It’s so embarrassing. I don’t even… whatever. So then in eighth grade, I started going out with my first enemy Grindelwald, who was totally gorgeous. But then I had to defeat him, and Tom was like, weirdly jealous of him. Like, if I would blow him off to duel with Grindelwald, he’d be like “Why didn’t you fight me back?”. And I’d be like “Why are you so obsessed with me?”. So then, for my birthday party, which was an all-Muggle sympathisers pool party, I was like “Tom, I can’t invite you because I think you’re Lord Voldemort “. I mean, I couldn’t have a Dark Lord at my party. There were gonna be people there in their muggle clothes. I mean, right? He was the Dark Lord. So then his mom called my mom and started yelling at her, it was so retarded. And then he dropped out of society because no one would talk to his disembodied soul, and he came back in the fall for the second Wizarding War, all of his hair was cut off and he was totally weird, and now I guess he’s got Horcruxes.

Sign that I should probably live somewhere with better defined seasons: the sight of snow never fails to make me smile. I'm sure it'll be different after a few days and the snow gets all melty and I slip and break my tailbone or something, but.

Also, Chinese people + hard liquor are such bad combination.

FIREWORKS~

And as far as I can tell, the only big ones that I'm going to be unable to access are YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, but they were all expected.

Something while I was waiting for my connecting flight in Taipei, oyeah, 6am thoughts:

Flight from Brisbane to Taipei was like an 8-hour long shower in terms of the weird shit I had time to think about. (Their entertainment system was down, and sleep was uncomfortable enough that I could wake intermittantly to think about aforementioned weird shit. Also, since when did I get so bad so sudoku?)

- Taipei is hands down the worst airport I've been in, bat none. I will never complain about Brisbane airport again. (Except you know that I will, next time I fly Singapore or something)

- The city looks amazing, though, from the air at dawn.

- Planes are really amazing. Wonderful. Marvellous. They can fly.

- Seriously, Taipei airport is really shit. I'm sure it's a great place to visit, but I am not looking forward to my 8 hour layover when I head home.

- Asians are the worst travellers.

- My moisturiser exploded from the cabin pressure :(

- I like that airports are minimally heated. It probably saves some energy, and it makes the cold weather outside less of a shock.

- China Airlines, shoddy food. I'm not kidding, guys, avoid this airline/airport if possible. I mean, it's not like cockroach-in-the-gruel bad, they're just basic bitches, if you'll excuse my ONTD expression, but for the price they charge, you're better off flying something superior.

In non-flying related news, I can't believe I didn't bring any Tim Tams with me. In fact, I've never bought any Tim Tams witgh me to China before. Maybe subconsciously I think they're not needed with the volume and variety of snacks available there. Idk man, everyone needs to experience black forest Tim Tams at least once in their lives.

So China is just as I remember it. Freezing, ofc, but I'm wearing thermals, and several layers of them. The grandparents are doing well - grandmum is headed home from the hospital tomorrow afternoon, and granddad's sugery has been postponed yet again, but he looked really great (well, for a bloke with a broken leg) when I visited him today, so ♥

Keep calm and carry on!

Farewell for two months, LJ, Facebook, Twitter! Possibly Wiki! I'll do some tweaking when I get to Beijing, and see if Dreamwidth works – I'll be posting over there if it does, at heywilma. Will miss you, flist ♥

You know, I just realised that I won't even be able to play Echo Bazaar over there, since I'd need to sign into FB/Twitter. Lame!
